Bay Hall

Designed by BGKA with Centerbrook Architects & Planners, Bay Hall Multipurpose Building was built to fit the lush, semi-tropical context of Texas A&M’s Corpus Christi campus, an island university located on the Gulf of Mexico. A blue patterned glazing system screens the entire east façade, and sweeping concrete eaves cantilever out to protect the interior from the coastal sun. A ‘palm’ court provides a transition to the adjacent building to the west, while tapering stairs along the east side allow access to an open campus green.

With almost 65,000 square feet of classrooms, offices, lecture halls and conference rooms, Bay Hall is an extremely flexible building that accommodates the needs of four different University departments.

Appropriate to the harsh coastal environment, sustainable design decisions included light-colored exterior materials, minimal westerly glazing, and a palm court that uses reclaimed condensate water for irrigation. The building has an equivalent of a Two-Star Sustainability Rating from the Austin Energy Green Building Program.
